Having made countless creative contributions to Rotary Club of Tulsa over the years, Ron Butler was named Rotarian of the Year on June 30.
“The Rotarian of the Year sets an example for us all – a model for how we are to serve and live as Rotarians,” said then-club president Del Dreyer, as he introduced Ron to receive the 2010 award.
Ron joins fellow Rotarians Linda Bradshaw, Del Dreyer, Bob McKenzie, Jim Weems, Ben Windham, David Peterson and Mac Finlayson in being recognized for the honor since the tradition began in 2003. Each year, the club president selects one Rotarian who has exemplified “service above self” as well as the elements of the four-way test. The Rotarian of the Year consistently puts service to the club, and in most cases also to the community, high on the priority list.
“I was excited I was chosen and very pleased to be added to the list of those who have received the honor before me,” said Ron.
A member of Rotary for nearly 20 years, Ron has served in many capacities at the Rotary Club of Tulsa, including positions at the committee level, board level and many other places where his graphic design talents were needed. With his creative partner and wife, Margaret, Ron has been the backbone of the club’s Henry P. Iba Citizen Athlete Committee since the event’s inception.
Not only did Ron design the 25-pound Iba award itself, but he and his staff manage the entire event production, including planning, executing promotions and publicity, scripting and creating all the printed materials associated with it.
In 2007, he created the new Rotary Club of Tulsa logo, which appears on the podium, letterhead, banners and on club Web site. Because of his endless capacity to create he is also responsible for the brand graphics for Camp Enterprise, Centennial Celebration and more.
In addition to his contribution of time and talents, Ron has given financially to Rotary and achieved the status of a Club Foundation Fellow and a Paul Harris Fellow.
