If it’s the last of June, then it’s time to change Rotary officers at all 33,000 clubs around the world. On June 30 at the Rotary Club of Tulsa, we again enjoyed Petty’s steaks grilled on Hasty Bakes, and a program that saluted Del Dreyer’s successful year as club president.
After Del thanked his officers, board, committee chairs and Rotary volunteers, the president – in one of his last official acts – announced that Ron Butler was named Rotarian of the Year. Ron has been an activist Rotarian, serving on the board and on several committees. With his creative partner and wife, Margaret, Ron has been the backbone of the club’s Henry P. Iba Citizen Athlete Committee.
Past President and Rotarian of the Day Ed Monnet introduced a year-in-review video, which highlighted some of the club’s major 2009-10 accomplishments. These included President Del’s personal successes, including the re-branding of the Community Fund to the Rotary Club of Tulsa Foundation, new recognition for contributors to the foundation, and the creation of a foundation bequest program called the Allan Edwards Society, named after the founder of the Community Fund, Past President Allan Edwards. During the Rotary year, remodeling and redecorating of the club office at 616 South Boston also was accomplished.
Club tradition continued as the year-end video – which was produced by Public Relations Chair Melissa Clark with video and post production help by Tulsa filmmaker Ward Mankin – turned humorous with a good-natured look at President Del’s year and his quest to boost membership.
In his remarks, Del thanked his family, the Rotary staff and the entire club for one of the best years in our club’s 95 year history. Louann Buhlinger, the club’s board chair, presented Del with his past president’s pin and gifts of appreciation.
Grilling and serving on the lunch committee were Scott Petty and his wife Maureen, Brad Anthamatten, Steve Clark, and Phil Hart.
