ONEOK Field: A Downtown Diamond
By GasserOnline Contributor, HANNIBAL B. JOHNSON

ONEOK Field. On Wednesday, March 31st, some 300 members of the Rotary Club of Tulsa struck out for ONEOK Field. Mother Nature cooperated with homerun weather: sunny, 75 degrees, and a stirring breeze. We ran the bases and reached consensus: The new home of the Tulsa Drillers is major league impressive!

An iconic oil derrick adorns one of several entrances to ONEOK Field. This tip of the hat to Oklahoma history, as well as to the team’s trademark, is an instant classic. It beckons both home team fans and idly curious visitors. A spectacular scoreboard at yet another entrance is three-times larger than the previous Tulsa Driller’s scoreboard and boasts game-changing technology.

With group outing options like the Oil Field Pavilion, the Tiki Deck, the Refinery Deck, the River Sprit Casino Party Platform, and several private party suites, ONEOK Field is sure to hit just about everyone’s sweet spot. There’s something for our independent and frugal teammates, too. For peanuts—a mere five dollars—folks can even bring in their own lounge chairs for a bird’s eye view of a Tulsa Driller’s game from an outfield vantage.

Food concessions and portable vendors provide dining opportunities that are both plentiful and varied. Kids will love Kid’s Zone, a brightly-colored, covered play area with a heavily padded floor surface and a superb view of all the on-field action.

This breathtaking facility, constructed at seeming breakneck speed, should make all Tulsans proud. It is part of a series of downtown transformations that have catapulted our city to the next level.

Special thanks to Rotary Club of Tulsa member and Tulsa Driller’s owner, Chuck Lamson, for being a gracious host and, more importantly, a community visionary. ONEOK Field is a downtown diamond—another jewel in the crown of Tulsa’s historic Greenwood District and another win for Tulsa.
